Re-using and recycling for the Christmas illuminations in La Croisille
True to its commitment to sustainable development and the circular economy, and also for environmental and financial reasons, La Croisille sur Briance’s council is opting for re-using and recycling decorations that it has obtained free of charge from neighbouring communes where they are no longer required.
All the other decorations provided by the town’s technical team are made from recycled materials. Some garlands, obtained from other local authorities, have been rejuvenated to decorate the village centre.
With its decorations, La Croisille is combining tradition and environmental awareness, promoting re-use and recycling.
All that remains to be done on Monday 24 November is to put up the traditional large Christmas tree at the fountain – the decorations have been made at the Mairie, by a member of the secretarial staff – and, following that, to install Father Christmas’ letterbox for the children. Then, finally, Father Christmas’ house will be decorated – ready for the distribution of books and Christmas gifts, from the commune, to the local school children – with the traditional photo of Father Christmas and the pupils. Ho, ho, ho!
On Friday, 28 November at 6:30pm, La Croisille’s Christmas lights will be switched on, transforming the village square into a small, brightly lit showcase until 14 January – when the Mayor’s New Year’s Greetings will take place. This will create a magical atmosphere for the villagers and the visitors passing through La Croisille.
The lights will be shining every evening until 10pm and in the morning from 6am until daybreak, so that the schoolchildren can enjoy them on their way to school. La Croisille is keeping the spirit of Christmas and the holiday season alive, while limiting its carbon footprint.
